Reiki, pronounced Ray-ki, is a gentle form of energy healing developed in 1922 by Sensei (teacher) Usui Mikao. I trained in Western Style and Gendai™ Reiki for many years, so I bring diverse learning to students.
In the past, I offered Gendai” Reiki Certification. I no longer provide these certificates, and I no longer call my classes Gendai” Reiki due to changes with the Hiroshi Doi Gendai Reiki Healing Association requirements.
The association forbids teaching Gendai” Reiki long distance, as they feel long-distance teaching goes against the spirit of Sensei Usui Mikao’s original teachings. In addition, there is strict adherence to using only “approved” and registered manuals from “approved” distributors. I respectfully disagree with this philosophy, but I am grateful for Sensei Doi’s hard work and diligence in promoting the lost original teachings of Sensei Usui.
I still teach the same material and techniques I learned from my teacher in 2009, so students learn the same things that Gendai” Reiki teaches, but without the trademarked name. Instead, the class name changed to “Japanese Style” Reiki. Sensei Hiroshi Doi developed Gendai™ Reiki in 1993. Gendai™ means Modern and combines both Traditional and Western Style Reiki Techniques. You can purchase A Modern Reiki Method for Healing. The western style here is the branch of Reiki that started from the Hayashi/Takata Lineage. This is the branch that most people trained in Reiki are part of.
I offer in-person and online courses. In-person courses take place in the Greater Houston Area. Online courses take place through Udemy, although I am in the process of developing and completing these courses. I will provide links once the classes go live.
There are four levels to the Japanese Reiki Method.
Shoden (The Entrance)昇殿
This class is the first level of Usui Reiki Ryoho. The course is 8 hours and scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm. Students learn the history of Reiki, the differences between western style and traditional style Reiki, and how energy systems work. Emphasis is on the five principles, or Gokai, and their use in everyday life and how they help us achieve happiness and increase our spirituality.
Students learn the basic hand positions and how to work on themselves, family, and friends, although this class emphasizes personal growth, development, and healing.
Students receive a workbook and online access through YouTube to correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms and the Shoden Level Reiju (3 attunements). Upon completion, a Japanese Reiki Certificate. This is an excellent class for those interested in learning the Reiki Method and is also a good class for those looking for a refresher or an approach more closely aligned with Traditional Japanese Reiki. Wear loose clothing. Lunch and snacks are provided.
I recommend purchasing The Japanese Art of Reiki, Reiki Fire, and The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui to increase your Reiki knowledge for this level:
Okuden (Inner Teachings) 奥伝
This is the second level of the Reiki Method. The course lasts 8 hours and scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm. Students learn more about energy and how our emotions and thoughts affect our energy. We discuss Chakras and Archetypes and how energy healing can work long distance via Quantum Physics.
Students will be given the shirushi and Kotodama (mantras) utilized at Okuden Level as focusing tools. We practice several Japanese meditation exercises to enhance the ability to feel subtle energies. The primary exercise is Hatsureiho which lasts for 30 minutes. In addition, students receive a manual, YouTube access to correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms, exercises to enhance personal and energy development, the Okuden Level Reiju (4 attunements), and a Certificate of Completion.
Students review the basic hand positions to work on themselves and others. Students will also need to purchase Amy Rowland’s Reiki For The Heart and Soul, which will be utilized at the third or Shinpiden level. You can buy it here: Reiki For the Heart and Soul. First, the mind heals, then the body.
Students need to bring their workbook from Level 1, a picture of themselves, and a picture of someone who has permitted them to do Long Distance Reiki on them. Wear loose clothing. Snacks and Lunch are provided.
Shinpiden (The Mystery)神秘傳
This class is the third level of Usui Reiki Ryoho. The course lasts 8 hours and scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm. Students learn to energetically resonate at higher vibrations to become a “bigger, brighter light.” Students learn the shirushi and Kotodama (mantras) utilized at the Shinpiden Level. We learn four more traditional Japanese Reiki Healing Techniques and 6 Personal Growth Techniques to keep the energy flowing. Students receive a workbook and online access through YouTube to correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms and the Shinpiden Level Reiju (3 attunements). Upon completion, a Japanese Reiki Certificate.
We discuss Amy Rowland’s Reiki For The Heart and Soul in detail and how focusing on the Gokai enriches our lives. How we don’t just “do Reiki, but are Reiki.” First, the mind heals, then the body. I recommend The Hayashi Reiki Manual to enhance your learning further.
Students need to bring their workbook from Level 2. Wear loose clothing. Snacks and Lunch are provided.
Gokuikaiden (Master’s Degree)
This is the fourth and final class in Usui Reiki Ryoho. The course lasts 8 hours and scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm. Students learn how to teach the Reiki Method to others and perform Reiju. Before registering for this class, students must complete and document 90 hours of Reiki healing on humans, plants, or animals and provide copies of their logs. We quickly review the material taught in the previous three levels, then move on to how to perform attunements and prepare their own class materials.
Students need to bring their workbooks from Levels 1 through 3. Wear loose clothing. Snacks and Lunch are provided.
