Proof of Heaven, by Eben Alexander
My friend and I were having a discussion about consciousness and she recommended that I read Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander. I had previously read My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor, and had found her book very interesting and enlightening. Both authors are involved with Neuroscience and how the brain works and how spirituality and consciousness fit into Neuroscience. In fact, Eben Alexander is a Neurosurgeon with a very interesting story to tell about his own NDE, or Near Death Experience. He knew NDEs were real, but thought they were fantasies produced by the brain when it is under severe stress.
It wasn’t until Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by an extremely rare occurrence of a bacterial infection in his brain and he was in a coma for seven days and experienced his own NDE that he realized that NDEs are in fact a real occurrence.
His journey from the “Realm of the Earthworm’s Eye View” into the “Core” and back, and finally back to a conscious state and into a miraculous recovery is a fascinating and thought provoking story that may confirm what your beliefs are about Heaven and the Afterlife, or it may give you a new perspective on the amazing learning experience that our physical life and death offers to us as eternal energy and spirits.
This book is one of those that once you open it, it’s hard to put down. It’s well-written and fairly easy to read, and certainly one that you should include on your reading list.
