Gendai Reiki-ho Explained

Gendai™ Reiki Ho: Searching for Spiritual Enlightenment and Connection

As someone, who, from an early age, searched for the meaning of life and what my path or purpose is on this great planet, I was drawn to study Reiki in 2005.  I took levels 1 and 2, and in 2008, completed my training with the level 3 and the teacher class.  I had the pleasure and luck of meeting Y. Fukushima, who also studied Reiki in the US.  She knew that there was something that had not correctly translated into our Reiki classes.  She traveled back to Japan and studied with Hiroshi Doi Sensei, and came back to the US, where I studied with her for over 1 year and learned Gendai™ Reiki-ho.

Gendai Reiki RevisedGendai™ Reiki Ho is a system of Reiki that Hiroshi Doi Sensei developed. He authored  Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho, A Modern Reiki Method of Healing.  This book was first published in Japan in 1998 and then in Canada in 2000, and recently revised in 2013.

What Hiroshi Doi Sensei realized when he developed his own style of Reiki, is that while the style that was being taught in the West was effective, historical facts concerning Usui Sensei and the development and evolution of Reiki were more allegorical rather than factual.  Since Hiroshi Doi Sensei is a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (school), he provides authentic historical information, as well as details about traditional Reiki techniques used to increase energy, awareness, and understanding.  First the mind heals, then the body.

In truth, there was no standard curriculum created by Usui Sensei, and the training was completely tailored to the individual and the spiritual progress of that individual.  In a recent article published in Reiki News Magazine, Hiroshi Doi Sensei is quoted: “Humans are a microcosm that takes the Great Spirit from Macrocosm; everyone holds a part of this Great Reiki in his body.  Therefore, we must always try to cultivate spirituality so that we can receive as much Great Reiki of the Universe as possible.”  Recently, I watched Cosmos, hosted by Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson.  I really enjoy watching this program.  This is one of his quotes, and it so completely agrees with the Reiki philosophy:

“Recognize that the very molecules that make up your body, the atoms that construct the molecules, are traceable to the crucibles that were once the centers of high mass stars that exploded their chemically rich guts into the galaxy, enriching pristine gas clouds with the chemistry of life. So that we are all connected to each other biologically, to the earth chemically and to the rest of the universe atomically. That’s kinda cool! That makes me smile and I actually feel quite large at the end of that. It’s not that we are better than the universe, we are part of the universe. We are in the universe and the universe is in us.”

One of the differences between Gendai™ Reiki-ho and Western Style Reiki is the emphasis of spiritual development and personal happiness and healing.  More emphasis is placed on the Go-kai (Five Reiki Principles) in Gendai™ Reiki.  Western Style Reiki puts more focus on healing others and the symbols.

If you would like to begin your journey toward spiritual enlightenment and personal happiness and healing, sign up for the first level of Gendai™ Reiki, which is Shoden (beginning degree).
