Tiger’s eye, also known as tiger eye, is a member of the quartz family (also called Jasper Quartz), and its chemical composition is Si O2 (silicon dioxide). It can be found in gold, red, and blue colors. It is a chatoyant gemstone, which means that it has an optical reflectance effect. Coined from the french term “oeil de chat”, which means “cat’s eye” , this effect comes from the fibrous nature of this gemstone. This gemstone is found widely, with variations from the United States, Mexico, India, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, and Spain.
Tiger’s Eye combines earth energy with sun energy to create a grounded, but high vibrational state, which helps to draw in the earth’s spiritual energies. It is classified as a transformer and a purifier. It can be used to enhance psychic abilities in earthy people if it is placed on the third eye, and balances the 1st and 3rd chakras and stimulates kundalini energy. It helps with issues of creativity, self-worth, and self-criticism. If you have difficulty in recognizing yours or others needs and the difference between needs and wishful thinking, this stone is useful in differentiating the two. It is also used to ground those people who are “spacey” or uncommitted. Tiger’s eye helps to integrate the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Tiger’s Eye is also used to balance duality, the yin-yang relationship and energizes the emotional body.
It is a protective stone that was traditionally carried as a talisman against ill wishing, and is similar to the “evil eye” bracelets that you may see some people wearing. Which, if you think about it, the stone does look like a cat’s eye. And since the stone does look like a cat’s eye, it can be used to help with night vision.
Tiger’s Eye is the Planetary Gemstone associated with the astrological sign of Gemini (May 21 to June 21), and is also associated with the 9th anniversary. Archangels associated with gold Tiger’s Eye are Michael and Uriel. Archangel Gabriel is associated with Red Tiger’s Eye.
